About

I have been a general pediatrician in Amarillo Texas since August 2001.  A lot of pediatrics is working with and educating the kids and their families.  Also, in my practice at Panhandle Pediatrics I’ve gotten a chance to be a preceptor (one on one teacher) to many Physician Assistant students and several Nurse Practitioner students.

My own education started out in Portland, Oregon at Lewis & Clark College for my bachelor of science.  After that, I got my MD from Oregon Health Sciences University in 1998, and completed a pediatrics residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Amarillo in 2001.  I also spend time at the hospitals (we have two here that our practice goes to) in committees where I learn not only about the science of medicine, but also other aspects of medicine such as quality assurance, peer review, and credentialing.

I have been Board Certified in Pediatrics since 2001, and keep up with the testing and learning needed for not only my board certification, but also my Texas license and hospital affiliations.

In my practice I spend most of my time in the clinic, seeing well and sick children.  However, I also see my new babies in the newborn nursery and my sick kids on the pediatric floor of the hospital as needed.

My general philosophy is good care for the kids and their families in as much of a scientific and sensible manner as possible.  With a little fun thrown in.  I don’t hate complimentary therapies, but there needs to be evidence that it works, or at least evidence it doesn’t cause harm monetarily or physically.  I believe vaccines are the best thing we’ve ever come up with in science, and if you don’t agree, tell me how many people with polio you see walking around right now.

Otherwise I spend a lot of time on my little farm where I have horses, and spend a lot of time practicing dressage.  I’m a proud geek, spending time in the world of fandom (Star Trek AOS is my favorite).  I am an Episcopalian, and spend time in the church choir.  I think nature and science are awesome, and that we should love it and each other.
